Garlic Green Pea and Goats Cheese Dip with Whole Wheat Pita Crisps Recipes
This is my at-home and I-don't-have-the-right-ingredients take on the Earls Restaurants Warm Feta and Spinach Dip. The real one has chopped spinach and artichokes with cream cheese, feta, mozzarella and provolone, served with herbed pita wedges. My one is a Garlic Green Pea and Goats Cheese Puree with whole wheat pita crisps.

Don't you love easy food?
Today I went to a friends first summer backyard BBQ! Ok, sadly the weather didn't fully cooperate but no one seemed to mind. Right before I left I threw together a quick BBQ meal to take with me.
I didn't take a picture - but they kida looked like the one in the top left. (Ok.. maybe not as tasty looking but.. they tasted yummy, were more nutritious and were better than some boring veggie burger.

I've been doing a lot of environmental thinking lately. The media seems to be on a 'green' kick and I'm noticing word about plastics popping up everywhere.
Which plastics contribute to alzheimers? Are Sigg water bottles safe? Which plastics can be reused safely instead of recycled?
So, I found out (courtesy of the wonderful David Suzuki) which numbers mean what. Plastic by numbers! :) You can download the PDF version here.

I live in Vancouver BC and it's that time of year again that you can safely plant herbs without them freezing to death overnight! If you're a vegetarian or have any culinary skill then you know that having homegrown fresh herbs is indispensable to cooking!
You can generally plant herbs as early as late April to early May. Last weekend I planted my parsley and this weekend I planted Basil, Cilantro and Arugula. Next weekend I'll drop in my Rosemary, Thyme and Sage. I don't have high hopes for the Arugula (the only non-herb I'm planting) as I've never done it before.

As a vegetarian or vegan you probably make a lot of beans like me.
The good thing about beans
is that they are pretty darn versatile. I buy them dry and store them at room temperature covered containers. They keep almost indefinitely. That being said, whatever you do, don't keep dry beans in the refrigerator.

There are plenty of brands of vegtable bouillion that make a fine substitue for homade stock in recipes.
BUYING TIP:
Make sure you check the labels (even at your local health food store) of vegetarian soup broth. Scan the ingredients to ensure it doesn't contain MSG (Monosodium glutamate, a common food additive).
According to federal regulations in Canada, the presence of MSG or hydrolyzed vegetable protein or hydrolyzed plant protein must be listed on the label. It's important to note that it's not illegal for them to use it as an ingredient, so watch out.. it's out there hiding inside seemingly healthy products!
